Thanks and Praise

Lincoln Village Dancers has performed at a number of local events.

Our last perfomance was at the Lincoln Hills Dance Group on Tuesday April 14, 2009.

They seemed to enjoy our performance.

We really appreciated your skillful and energetic dancing on Tuesday
and hope you will join us on many future folk dance occasions.
Your performance helped our party go with a swing!

How I got involved with Lincoln Village Dancers

How did I get involved with one of the great joys in my life, Lincoln Village Dancers, a.k.a. The Roy Butler Dance School? Well there is a story to that; that is for sure. It involves their original teacher Jan Stephens and the Miorita Cultural Association's parties. At the time Jan was my teaching partner along with Yvonne and Andre Couvillion at Social Dance of the World (SDOW) one of my other folk dance classes.

In October of 2006 I went at the invitation of Viorel Nicula the association President to one of the Miorita Cultural Association's Romanian parties. At the party, I was asked if my group could do a performance at the upcoming Romanian Independence Day Party in December. At the time the SDOW teaching team met every Thursday night to go over the dances we were going to teach; therefore, I asked them to perform with me and they agreed.

The December performance went well and Viorel asked us to perform again at their next party coming up in March of 07. Not loving to perform like Jan and I, Yvonne and Andre decided that once was enough and they didn't want to perform in the next performance. That only left Jan and I to perform and we needed some more dancers to show the line dances.

Jan, the summer before, had started teaching some of the ladies from her church, One Life Christian Church, folk dances; therefore, she offered her ladies to me for the next performance. Let's just say I was a little sceptical at first asking raw beginners to perform before a group. Not wanting to disappoint Jan, I took her up on her offer and started working with her ladies. What a nice surprise it was when they worked so hard and did so well at their first performance, but then again Jan was their first teacher so it shouldn't of been a surprise.

It went on like this for a while, with me meeting with the ladies when we had an upcoming performance and teaching and praticing the performance dances. At this point, we performed mainly at the the Miorita Cultural Association's Romanian parties, where the Romanian DJ would introduce us as the Roy Butler Dance Skoool. In October of 07, Jan moved to Oregon, and she gave me one of the greatest gifts I have ever received. She asked me to take over teaching the Lincoln Village Dancers.

I took over the class and it has been one of the greatest joys in my life. We don't perform as much at the Romanian Parties. Viorel has found a local Romanian Group to perform, but we have been performing at a lot of community cultural events, and the ladies make me proud every time we perform.
